Who we are
We're a woman-owned brand based in the Detroit area. Inspired by the timeless simplicity of the wooden mallet, we’re passionate about crafting modern, heirloom-quality mallets for your kitchen, home, workspace, and garden.
OUR STORY
An everyday object, a favorite thing
The most delicious things happen when you least expect them. I needed to crush a handful of walnuts for cookies, so I grabbed an old woodworking mallet to do the job. I was surprised by how effective it was when I needed to whack something (surprisingly often). My new find quickly became my go-to tool, and everyone else's, too. And with today's kitchens often serving as both work and living spaces, it made perfect sense to keep this useful tool within easy reach.
Shortly after, I created a mallet in a woodworking shop as an introduction to using the lathe. Inspired by Barbara Hepworth's wood sculptures, I created my own designs. My versions fused art with functionality, blending the ordinary with the artistic while maintaining practicality and familiarity.
OUR VALUES
Crafted for quality
We start by creating design sketches that evolve into detailed CAD files. These files guide a CNC lathe in the production of our mallets. After this initial phase, each mallet is carefully hand-shaped and finished by a skilled craftsperson in woodworking. This meticulous attention to detail enables us to create pieces that are not only unique but also made with care and passion.
Crafted in the USA
We're committed to supporting our community through our production processes and sales. We design our collections at our studio in Michigan; they're custom-crafted and hand-finished in Indiana, Maine, and Pennsylvania.

We design today's mallets to be tomorrow's heirlooms. With proper care, you can hand your mallets down to future generations.
People care
Your purchase enables us to donate a percentage of our annual sales to Noah at Central in Detroit, MI, a hub for services and resources that support individuals on their path to stable housing. Through additional donations, we also support children's education in Traverse City, MI.
Planet care
We do our best to limit our impact on the environment, and here's how: Our mallets are crafted from sustainably sourced North American hard maple. We use an environmentally safe plant-based finish, making our mallets 100% food-safe and entirely biodegradable. Bump's leather straps are crafted from ecologically friendly, vegetable-tanned leather.
